Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a series of high-level phone calls on Monday, March 23, with key regional and international figures to address escalating security concerns in the Middle East. His discussions included conversations with Abdullah bin Zayed of the United Arab Emirates, Faisal bin Farhan of Saudi Arabia, Badr Al-Busaidi, Hakan Fidan, Ishaq Dar, Jean-Noël Barrot, Konstantinos Kombos, as well as Steve Witkoff.
According to Tamim Khafaga, these communications reflect Egypt’s commitment to coordinating with Arab partners and international stakeholders to contain the ongoing military escalation, which, if left unchecked, could plunge the region into widespread instability with serious consequences for regional and global security.
Minister Abdel-Aati reiterated Egypt’s full condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting Gulf states, stressing that such aggression cannot be justified and must be halted immediately. He emphasized Egypt’s active engagement in diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation, promoting dialogue, and ending hostilities, underlining the country’s commitment to regional stability.
The discussions also touched on potential US-Iran negotiations in light of former President Trump’s recent initiative, with Egypt and other regional actors working to advance diplomacy as the only viable path to prevent the conflict from spreading. Officials stressed that constructive dialogue remains the most reliable means to protect regional security and safeguard the welfare of local populations.
