Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta has officially announced that Sunday will mark the first day of the holy month of Rajab for the Hijri year 1447, following the confirmed sighting of the new moon.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Dar Al-Ifta said it had observed the crescent moon of Rajab after sunset on the 29th day of Jumada Al-Akhirah 1447 AH, corresponding to December 20, 2025. The moon sighting was carried out through the institution’s religious and scientific committees, deployed across various governorates in Egypt.
According to the statement, the legitimate visual sighting of the crescent moon was verified in accordance with Islamic law, confirming the beginning of the new lunar month. Based on this confirmation, Dar Al-Ifta declared that Sunday, December 21, 2025, is the first day of Rajab 1447 AH.
Rajab is one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar and holds particular spiritual significance for Muslims, often regarded as a period of preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.
On the occasion, Dar Al-Ifta extended its congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, wishing him continued health and well-being. The institution also congratulated the Egyptian people, as well as the leaders of Arab and Islamic nations and Muslims worldwide.
The statement concluded with prayers that God may grant Egypt and the Muslim world many more such blessed occasions, filled with goodness, prosperity, security, and peace.
