Egypt Daily News – As Egypt continues its efforts to restore calm to the devastated Gaza Strip following Israel’s resumption of airstrikes and the collapse of the fragile ceasefire that came into effect on January 19, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti revealed new information. He confirmed that an agreement had been reached on the members of the non-partisan committee responsible for managing Gaza, which will operate for six months.
He emphasized that Egypt’s efforts are ongoing to stabilize the ceasefire agreement and implement it in its three phases, urging all parties to adhere to its terms.
Egyptian Plan
In a statement, Abdel Atti expressed hope that these efforts would lead to progress and help contain the current escalation, which carries many risks and undermines peace and stability in the region.
He also mentioned that Egypt would continue its engagement with the U.S. administration regarding the details of the Gaza reconstruction plan and its implementation methods. Egypt expects that the Gaza reconstruction conference will result in clear mechanisms and commitments after international support for the Egyptian-Arab plan.
Regarding Egypt’s vision for future relations with the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s administration, he explained that the two countries share a strong strategic partnership that has lasted for over four decades.
This partnership is based on constructive cooperation between institutions and covers various areas, including economic, political, military, security, and cultural fields. He confirmed that this partnership transcends political parties and is based on mutual strategic and political interests that enhance security and stability in the Middle East.
During the extraordinary Arab League summit held on March 4, Cairo presented a plan for Gaza that called for the reconstruction of the area without displacing its residents and for its management later by a non-partisan committee.
However, Israel rejected the plan, arguing that it did not address the root cause of the issue and insisting that Hamas could not remain in the region or retain its weapons.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian movement has repeatedly stated that there is no room for discussing the disarmament or trading it for a ceasefire.
