Egypt’s group standing after Sierra Leone’s victory over Guinea-Bissau in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Egypt Daily News – Sierra Leone secured an important 3-1 victory over Guinea-Bissau in their 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers (Group A) match on Thursday evening.

With this win, Sierra Leone moved up to second place with 8 points, trailing Egypt, which leads the group with 10 points. Guinea-Bissau, on the other hand, remains at 6 points and drops to third place.

Egypt is set to face Ethiopia tomorrow (Friday) in Morocco as part of the same round of qualifiers.

The match was played at Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Liberia. Sierra Leone started strong, taking the lead in the 19th minute through Mustapha Bundu. Musa Kamara doubled the advantage in the 61st minute, and Ibrahim Turay sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal in the 96th minute. Guinea-Bissau’s only goal came from Tamble Monteiro in the 68th minute, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.

This result boosts Sierra Leone’s hopes for qualification as they prepare for a crucial match against Egypt on March 25 at Cairo International Stadium.
