Fatah and Hamas

Egypt Daily News – Egypt has intensified its efforts, during the past few days, within the framework of cooperation with the United States and Qatar, with the aim of accelerating the process of reaching an agreement between the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel to end the war and establish a ceasefire inside the Gaza Strip.

Delegations from Palestinian factions, including Hamas, Fatah and Islamic Jihad, arrived in Cairo today, Saturday, in order to hold discussions on the terms of the latest proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The discussions of the Palestinian factions, especially the delegations of Fatah and Hamas, will include the Egyptian initiative’s proposal to stop the war inside the Gaza Strip, in addition to completing national reconciliation, arranging the Palestinian house from within, and completing talks on the Community Support Committee for the administration of Gaza.

The Hamas movement expressed earlier that it is more open at the present time to discussing proposals that aim to end the war inside Gaza, and ensure the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes in the northern Gaza Strip, in addition to the mechanism for introducing humanitarian and relief aid to Palestinian civilians.

It is estimated that Hamas’ position stipulates its commitment to a ceasefire in Gaza if the Israeli side adheres to it.

Community Support Committee in Gaza
The Community Support Committee in Gaza is one of the solutions that can be implemented within Gaza, especially the “next day” phase within the Strip after the end of the war.

The Community Support Committee in Gaza is affiliated with the Palestinian Authority, which in turn issues an official decree forming it, provided that it includes independent figures with national consensus who are responsible for managing the sector.

The redoubling of Egyptian efforts comes within the framework of its goal to stop the bloodshed and quickly alleviate the harsh human suffering experienced by Palestinian civilians and the unprecedented famine they are experiencing as a result of the Israeli aggression.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza
It is estimated that there are about a million people in Gaza who do not have adequate housing as winter approaches, and with many homes and facilities, as well as tents, destroyed due to intense bombing, hundreds of thousands of families suffer and live in the open.

Warnings are increasing about the danger of the crisis worsening inside Gaza, coinciding with the approaching start of the cold rainy season, as fears of renewed health damage due to floods and polluted water multiply.

The World Food Programme, affiliated with the United Nations, confirmed that the prices of basic foodstuffs in the Gaza Strip have risen by more than 1,000% compared to pre-war levels, making it almost impossible for thousands of families to obtain food, including basic items such as bread, rice, Oil and meat have become completely unavailable, which increases the burden on a population that has already been suffering from the siege that has been ongoing for years.

The shortage of medicines portends a health disaster
This also coincides with a catastrophic humanitarian situation represented by a shortage of medicines and medical supplies in hospitals, amid difficulty in accessing humanitarian aid, in addition to damage to the water and electricity infrastructure, which further complicates the situation, deepening the health crises there.

The Israeli occupation greatly increases the pressure on humanitarian organizations, as many international campaigns try to send aid, but Israel prevents this and tightens its siege on the Gaza Strip and intensifies air strikes, which makes any attempt to transfer aid into the Gaza Strip difficult.
