Egypt Daily News – Sources have indicated that Dr. Mohamed Maait, the former Minister of Finance, is expected to be nominated as the head of the Arab Group at the International Monetary Fund, the largest financial institution in the world, succeeding Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin.

Dr. Mohamed Maait, the former Minister of Finance, held the position of Minister of Finance for about 6 years under difficult circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic, the inflation wave, and the Ukraine-Russia war.

Hassan Abdullah, the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin on the occasion of the end of his term as Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and representative of Egypt, the Arab Group, and the Maldives on its Board of Governors, for his efforts over the past four years in helping the member countries achieve their economic and developmental goals amid the unprecedented challenges faced by the entire world, starting from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, through the global geopolitical crises, and then the recent tensions in the Middle East region.
