Egypt Daily News – The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics said that the population in Gaza decreased by 6% after the outbreak of war about 15 months ago, after about 100,000 Palestinians left the Strip, and more than 55,000 were killed.
The agency quoted data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health that about 45,500 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, have been killed since the outbreak of the war, while 11,000 are missing.
The agency explained that data indicate that the population of Gaza decreased by about 160,000 during the war to 2.1 million, including more than 1 million, or 47%, under the age of 18.
It said in its report published on Tuesday: “Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has been waging a brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip, targeting people, buildings, and vital infrastructure. Cities have turned into rubble, entire neighborhoods have become traces and entire families whose names have been erased from history” civil registry, devastating human and material losses.”
Israel faces accusations of committing genocide in Gaza due to the number of deaths and injuries and the extent of the destruction. The Central Bureau of Statistics said in the report: “22% of the population faces catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity,” according to the criteria of the Integrated Interim Classification of Food Security.
The report added that “11,000 pregnant women and about 3,500 children are at risk of death due to malnutrition and lack of food, as 36 children were martyred as a result of famine and malnutrition.
