Egypt Daily News – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany have lifted restrictions on supplying Ukraine with Western weapons capable of reaching targets deep inside Russian territory.

In an interview with WDR television, Chancellor Merz said, “The Christian Democratic Union in Germany has lifted the restrictions on the supply of long-range weapons to Kyiv.” He added, “The UK, France, the U.S., and now Germany have removed the limitations on the range of weapons being delivered to Ukraine, which allows Kyiv to strike targets within Russian territory using long-range arms.”

He continued: “There are no longer any restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine — not from the British, the French, us, or the Americans. This means that Ukraine can now defend itself, including, for example, carrying out strikes on military sites inside Russian territory. Until recently, it was unable to do so.”

Merz emphasized, “The next step is to actually deliver these weapons to Ukraine.”

It is worth noting that in mid-April, Merz indicated that Germany might agree to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine after coordination with European partners. However, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated at the time that there were “several arguments” against taking such a step.

In response, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned that Moscow would consider any strike carried out by German-supplied Taurus missiles on Russian targets as direct participation by Berlin in combat operations alongside Kyiv.
