Egypt Daily News – UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the international community must end the Israeli war on Gaza, emphasizing that Israeli operations have reached an unprecedented level of destruction in Gaza.

Speaking on Tuesday at the emergency Arab summit in Cairo, Guterres warned of the increasing destruction faced by Palestinians in Gaza and rejected the prospect of a long-term military presence there. He stressed the need to work towards the release of both Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners and to remove obstacles to delivering aid to Gaza.

He affirmed that Gaza should be part of the Palestinian state without any reduction in its territory. He welcomed the Arab League’s initiative to mobilize support for Gaza’s reconstruction, noting that there is no sustainable future for Gaza unless it is part of a fully recognized Palestinian state, and that sustainable reconstruction cannot occur without a clear and comprehensive political horizon.

Guterres praised the role of UNRWA, which operates under the most challenging conditions in Gaza, calling for full support for the agency’s work.

He also urged de-escalation in the West Bank and an end to settlement expansion.
