Egypt Daily News – A Hamas official announced on Saturday the start of indirect negotiations with an Israeli delegation in Doha “without preconditions,” mediated by Egypt and Qatar.
Tahir al-Nunu, media adviser to the head of Hamas’s political bureau, told AFP that “a new round of indirect negotiations has indeed begun today in Doha without preconditions.”
He explained that “the negotiations will be open to all issues without any reservations or preconditions.” Al-Nunu stated that Hamas “will present its views on all matters, especially those related to ending the war, Israeli withdrawal, and prisoner exchange.”
Another senior Hamas figure based in Gaza, who requested anonymity, told AFP that this round of talks “is not based on any previous proposals or any Israeli offer, and is being conducted without any preconditions from either Israel or the resistance.”
The official did not rule out the possibility of reaching a ceasefire agreement “if Israel has the political will and does not obstruct progress,” stressing that such an agreement “requires sufficient pressure from the U.S. and mediators (in Egypt and Qatar).”
He added, “It is still too early to talk about optimism or any real breakthrough.”
A well-informed Palestinian source confirmed that “there is no specific proposal or document being discussed in these talks not even the one from U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff,” implying that negotiations are starting from scratch.
Health authorities in Gaza say that Israel’s military campaign has devastated the densely populated territory, displaced nearly two million people, and killed over 53,000.
Israel has accused Hamas of stealing aid a claim Hamas denies and has blocked all aid from entering Gaza since March 2, demanding that all remaining hostages be released.
On Monday, a global hunger watchdog warned that half a million people—about a quarter of Gaza’s population—are facing famine.
On Friday, U.S. President Trump stated that “many people are starving in Gaza.”
