Egypt Daily News – A delegation from Hamas arrived in Cairo on the eve of talks regarding a ceasefire with Israel in the Gaza Strip, according to two officials from the movement on Friday.

One of the officials told “AFP” that “a high-level leadership delegation from Hamas, led by Mohamed Darwish, the acting head of the movement, arrived in Cairo on Friday afternoon.”

He added that on Saturday, the delegation will meet with Egyptian officials to discuss the latest developments, the progress of efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement, and matters related to the start of the second phase.

The first phase of the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange in Gaza ended last Saturday. However, Israel has so far refused to begin the second phase and has repeatedly threatened to resume the war.

Hamas has warned that Israeli hostages could be killed if the Israeli army resumes its operations in Gaza.

In a video statement, a Hamas spokesperson said that “any escalation of aggression” against the Palestinian people would result in the deaths of several hostages.

The spokesperson held Israel responsible for the fate of the hostages and accused it of failing to uphold its commitments under the Gaza agreement.

According to Israeli sources, Hamas is still holding 24 hostages and 35 bodies inside Gaza.
