Egypt Daily News – The Israeli army bombed the southern suburb of Beirut 20 times in two minutes on Tuesday afternoon, marking one of the most intense bombing campaigns near the Lebanese capital since the war began more than two months ago, an Israeli military spokesman said.
20 targets in 120 seconds: The Israeli army attacks terrorist targets in Beirut, including targets for managing and storing funds belonging to Hezbollah,” Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee wrote in a post on the X website at 3:57 p.m. Beirut time.
This comes just before the Israeli Cabinet meeting to vote on a possible ceasefire with Hezbollah. Large clouds of smoke covered Beirut after a rapid succession of strikes in the southern residential suburb of the capital.
The area, home to about a million people, has been largely evacuated since night strikes began there on September 27. The bombing comes at a time when Lebanon and Israel are preparing to announce an imminent ceasefire.
The targeted buildings are located in the areas of Hadath, Haret Hreik and Borj el-Barajneh – areas known to be Hezbollah strongholds.
Hezbollah retaliated by launching successive attacks on Israel targeting areas including Haifa and Nahariya in reply to the Israeli attacks.
Sources reported on Tuesday that sirens sounded in Haifa and its surrounding areas and explained that sirens were sounded to warn of the launching of rockets and missiles at Haifa, Kiryat Bialik, Kiryat Ata, Kiryat Motzkin, Kiryat Yam and Nesher. It also confirmed that 4 explosions were heard in the sky of Haifa.
The Israeli army stated in a statement that, “After hearing sirens between 16:44 and 16:45 in the Haifa Bay area, the Israeli Air Force intercepted 5 missiles fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory.”
It added: “Also, after hearing sirens between 16:28 and 16:41 in the Upper and Western Galilee regions, about 5 shells were identified that were launched from Lebanon, and some of them were intercepted.”
The Israeli army spokesman indicated that about ten launches were detected crossing from Lebanon towards Nahariya and the surrounding area, following the issuance of warnings in the area between 17:35 and 17:26.
Sources confirmed that sirens continued to sound warning of the infiltration of marches in Nahariya, Akko, the Upper and Western Galilee.
