Egypt Daily News – Israeli tanks shelled 6 areas in southern Lebanon on Thursday, while the Israeli army says that the ceasefire with the Lebanese Hezbollah group was violated after what it described as suspicious people, some of whom were in vehicles, arrived in a number of areas in the south.
Two people were injured on Thursday as a result of Israeli targeting of a Lebanese border village, according to the official National News Agency, which reported that “two people in the town of Markaba” in southern Lebanon were injured as a result of Israeli targeting.
The Lebanese representative for Hezbollah, Hassan Fadlallah, confirmed that “Israel is attacking those returning to their villages in southern Lebanon.”
The Israeli army ordered residents of the towns located on the border strip not to return at this time for their safety. Tank fire hit the towns of Markaba, Al-Wazzani, Kfar Shuba, Al-Khiam, Al-Taybeh, and the agricultural plains around Marjayoun, all of which are located two kilometers from the Blue Line that demarcates the border between Lebanon and Israel.
Lebanese families displaced from their homes near the southern border tried to return to check on their property. But Israeli army is still stationed inside Lebanese territory in towns along the border, with reconnaissance drones continue to fly over parts of southern Lebanon.
For its part, the Lebanese army announced, on Thursday, that it had begun transferring military units to the southern Litani Strip, to begin enhancing its deployment in the Strip in coordination with UNIFIL forces, after the ceasefire agreement with Israel, which took effect on Wednesday.
