Macron at the White House

Egypt Daily News – Videos published by American journalists on social media revealed that President Donald Trump did not step out to greet his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, upon his arrival at the White House.

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at the White House on Monday for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, expected to focus on opportunities to end the Ukraine crisis amid disagreements on how to proceed.

Footage published by American journalists shows a black Chevrolet car bearing the American and French flags approaching the White House entrance with President Macron on board.

The car honked several times, but U.S. President Donald Trump did not come out to receive Macron. Meanwhile, the French president exited the vehicle, waved to the gathered journalists, and entered the hall alone.

Some French journalists commented on the visit. David Thomson, a journalist for Radio France Internationale, wrote on Platform “X”: “There was no official reception for Emmanuel Macron upon his arrival at the White House, which gives an idea of France’s importance to Washington.”

The leader of the “Stand Up France” party, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, stated that “the situation that happened to President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to the White House is humiliating.”

He added, “What a humiliation after all these years of servitude… When France stops thinking for itself, this is how it ends,” calling for “urgent early presidential elections so that an independent France can emerge.”

Meanwhile, the leader of the French “Patriots” party, Florian Philippot, commented on Macron’s visit, saying: “Without Trump… Macron was not welcomed at the White House.”

Another journalist wrote: “A cold reception for Macron,” adding, “Trump didn’t even consider it necessary to meet him,” and “No Trump, no protocol! Macron even had to honk his car horn to signal his arrival.”

The French president arrived in the United States in an attempt to convince Trump to involve the European Union in talks regarding Ukraine. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has similar objectives, is also set to travel to Washington later this week.

Trump had previously made several critical remarks about the European Union while discussing the visits of French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Washington. He argued that Europe had done nothing and made no effort to end the Ukraine crisis, while also criticizing Kyiv for similar inaction.

The White House confirmed that critics of U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach to quickly resolving the Ukraine crisis only want the fighting to continue indefinitely, emphasizing that Trump has no intention of listening to them.
