Egypt Daily News – The Camille Chamoun Sports City in Lebanon and its surrounding areas are witnessing massive crowds participating in the funeral procession of Hezbollah officials Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safi al-Din today, Sunday.
The Lebanese news agency reported that not only is the sports city and the burial site seeing large gatherings, but also all roads leading to the site, particularly around the Kuwaiti Embassy and the airport road, where people are waiting for the coffins of the two Hezbollah leaders to pass on a specially designated vehicle.
According to the agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived at the sports city, leading a diplomatic delegation along with judicial and religious figures.
Interior Minister Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Hajjar has been monitoring the security measures implemented by the Internal Security Forces, other security and military agencies, and civil defense since the morning in and around Camille Chamoun Sports City.
Security and military forces had already begun enforcing necessary security measures last night and early this morning on all main roads and highways leading from Beirut and other areas to the funeral site at the sports city.
Since the early hours of the morning, residents of Baalbek-Hermel province have been heading toward Beirut to take part in the funeral procession of Hezbollah officials Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safi al-Din, despite icy road conditions formed overnight.
The number of people from the Bekaa region who have flocked to Camille Chamoun Sports City since yesterday has reached approximately 200,000, based on the recorded number of cars and buses displaying pictures of Nasrallah, along with flags and banners.
A pro-Hezbollah channel described the event as a “human flood” from all regions, with massive crowds gathering to participate in the funeral of Hassan Nasrallah and his longtime companion, Hashem Safi al-Din. The channel also noted that Lebanese army aircraft have been continuously flying over Beirut, its suburbs, and the sports city.
Nasrallah was assassinated on September 27 in an Israeli airstrike while meeting with party leaders.
Hezbollah is preparing to hold the funeral ceremony for Hassan Nasrallah on Sunday, nearly five months after his assassination in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
