Egypt Daily News – The meeting chaired by Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, on the heels of the recent Minya train accident, resulted in significant administrative actions within the railway top executives.
Following the collision of a power locomotive with sleeper train number 1087, several railway officials were suspended and referred for investigation.
Sources indicate that the Minister of Transport’s decision to suspend these officials was confirmed, and further changes in railway authority leadership are anticipated.
In his statement, El-Wazir made it clear that accountability measures would extend to all personnel involved in the incident, including drivers, tower supervisors, operation engineers, and area managers. Those found responsible will be sent to the Public Prosecution for investigation.
El-Wazir emphasized the necessity of imposing severe penalties to ensure public safety and to deter future negligence within the railway system.
He underscored the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to taking legal and disciplinary actions against individuals who display negligence or fail to adhere to the established regulations, indicating a zero-tolerance stance on any actions that could jeopardize the safety of citizens or public property.
