Egypt Daily News – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration organized an event, today, Monday, as part of the campaign to nominate Dr. Khaled El-Anany for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty gave a speech during the event, in which he stressed that the momentum gained by the Egyptian nomination came as a result of the weight of the Egyptian state and the countries’ appreciation of the extensive scientific, cultural and administrative experience of Dr. Khaled El-Anany.
He highlighted that Egypt has spared no effort in supporting peace and enhancing international cooperation to achieve development, security, stability and prosperity, pointing out Egypt’s nomination of Dr. Khaled Al-Anani was done based on his vision, experiences and qualifications that qualify him to lead UNESCO, especially since no Arab official has ever held the position of Director-General of the organization since its establishment.
He added that UNESCO receives great deal of Egyptian attention at both the official and popular levels, as Egypt is one of the organization’s founding countries, in addition to its active participation in its various work mechanisms, noting Egypt’s previous cooperation with the organization in many and diverse projects.
Dr. Khaled Al-Anani thanked the confidence placed in him by the political leadership and the support his candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO received from all state institutions, praising in particular the efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is responsible for managing the electoral campaign.
In his speech, Al-Anani also reviewed the progress the nomination has come since the Prime Minister announced it on April 5, 2023, and the electoral rounds conducted by Dr. Al-Anani to learn about the viewpoints of different countries to formulate an electoral vision that achieves international consensus.
Dr. Al-Anani’s speech dealt with the broad outlines of his electoral vision, which he has been formulating over the past period, and which will be officially presented to the organization in mid-next March in the areas of the organization’s work.
At the end of his speech, the Egyptian candidate announced the launch of the official website for his candidacy campaign (www.khaledelenany.com).
