Egypt international right-back Mohamed Hany issued a public apology to fans after being sent off during the national team’s hard-fought victory over South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations, a match that tested the Pharaohs’ resilience and depth.

The incident occurred late in the first half of Friday night’s group-stage clash, when Hany received his second yellow card in stoppage time, forcing Egypt to play the entire second half with ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Pharaohs showed discipline and composure, securing a 1–0 win that kept them top of their group with six points from two matches.

Speaking after the final whistle, Hany expressed relief at the result and regret over his dismissal. He thanked his teammates for their collective effort, particularly in the second half, and apologized to Egyptian supporters, stressing that the red card was unintentional and not a reflection of his commitment to the team.

Egypt’s ability to protect their narrow lead with a man down underlined the team’s defensive organization and growing tactical maturity. The coaching staff adjusted quickly after the sending-off, tightening the lines and relying on compact defending and controlled possession to neutralize South Africa’s attacks.

Hany’s first yellow card came in the 31st minute following a protest against the referee’s decision, a moment of frustration that later proved costly. His absence is now expected to be felt in Egypt’s next group match against Angola on Monday, as suspensions following red cards are enforced under tournament regulations.

Despite the setback, Hany emphasized that the squad’s focus remains firmly on the bigger objective: competing for the Africa Cup of Nations title. He praised the unwavering support of Egyptian fans and pledged that the players would work to avoid similar situations as the tournament progresses.

With qualification momentum on their side and confidence growing after consecutive victories, Egypt now turn their attention to the final group-stage fixture, aiming to finish strongly and carry their form into the knockout rounds, where discipline and squad depth will become even more decisive.
