Egypt Daily News – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returned from the United States on Wednesday morning, just before his appearance to testify in court as part of an ongoing case against him, known in the media as “Case 4000,” related to corruption suspicions and abuse of power.
This session comes after Netanyahu’s surprise official visit to Washington, where he met with U.S. President Donald Trump. The two leaders discussed several key issues, including the Iranian nuclear program, U.S. tariffs on Israeli goods, and developments in the Gaza Strip.
Regarding the Iranian issue, Trump announced the start of direct talks between the United States and Iran to ease tensions surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program. This was seen by observers as a surprising step for Netanyahu, who had hoped for a firmer U.S. stance. On the issue of tariffs, Netanyahu tried to convince the U.S. administration to lift the 17% taxes imposed on Israeli products, but Trump remained firm, prioritizing reducing the trade deficit.
Concerning Gaza, Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s commitment to returning the hostages and eliminating Hamas’s military capabilities. Trump proposed a vision for reconstructing the sector with the involvement of Gulf countries, as part of a broader settlement of the conflict.
After concluding his visit, Netanyahu described his meetings in Washington as “positive and warm,” praising the strength of relations with the United States. However, informed sources indicated that the visit did not achieve any significant breakthroughs on the core issues, putting increasing pressure on the prime minister, especially with his direct return to the courts.
