Egypt Daily News – Today, Wednesday, the Competitions Committee of the Egyptian Football Association announced the list of clubs participating in the Egypt Cup for the new season, and the list included only 17 clubs, excluding Al-Ahly Club.
Al-Ahly club was excluded from the 18 Premier League clubs that will join the rest of the lower division clubs in the draw due to the penalty of being deprived of the tournament this year.
Last season, Al-Ahly withdrew from the tournament after it apologized for participating in the round of 16 match against Pharco. Accordingly, Al-Ahly was considered to have withdrawn according to the regulations, and a penalty was applied, which was depriving it of participating in the new season’s version of the Egypt Cup.
The Egyptian Cup regulations stipulate that if a team withdraws from the competition, a fixed fine of one million pounds will be imposed, and it will be prohibited from participating in the tournament next season.
