Erdogan: We will not allow for a second Nakba and Israel must pay for the reconstruction of Gaza
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed today, Monday, that his country will not allow the repetition of a second Nakba for the Palestinian people, stressing that Israel must pay the cost of reconstruction of the Gaza Strip alone.
In statements made, Erdogan said: “Peace and development cannot be resolved in a place where justice is absent and the rights of peoples are ignored for brutal interests.”
Erdogan considered that the structure of the United Nations, which lacks a real representation of the Islamic world, is unable to achieve justice, because it is not fair in its nature, stressing that the world needs a new global system capable of addressing its problems, from the economy to security,
He called for building a just global system that accepts diversity and differences as a richness, not a threat.
Erdogan criticized the international community’s failure to stop the Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip, saying: “The international community failed the Gaza exam and was unable to address the crimes committed there.”
He added, “We received threats and obstacles because of our position on the Palestinian issue, but we stood on the side of Gaza despite all the pressure,” stressing that Israel’s failure to achieve its military goals in Gaza, and that it procrastinated in implementing the terms of the ceasefire, as he put it.
Erdogan stated that the cost of destruction in Gaza is estimated at 100 billion dollars, holding the government of Benjamin Netanyahu fully responsible for it. He stressed the need to compel Israel to pay compensation for the damage caused in Gaza before starting reconstruction.
The Turkish president added: “Netanyahu should search for resources to compensate the Palestinians instead of searching for a place to deport them.” Erdogan stressed that no one has the ability to displace the Palestinians from their land, stressing the need to return the lands and property that Israel and settlers seized to their Palestinian owners.
