Egypt Daily News – The Ministry of Petroleum announced that due to the military situation in the region and the halt of gas supplies from Israel, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has activated the pre-prepared emergency plan prioritizing natural gas supply.

This includes stopping natural gas supplies to some industrial activities, increasing diesel consumption in power plants to the maximum available amount, and coordinating to operate some plants on fuel oil as a precautionary measure to maintain the stability of the natural gas network and avoid load shedding on the electricity grid, while awaiting the resumption of natural gas flow from the east.

Israel is shutting down production at its largest natural gas field, significantly reducing gas supplies to Egypt, a country heavily reliant on energy imports. The Israeli government has ordered the suspension of operations at the offshore Leviathan field, operated by Chevron Corp., citing security concerns, according to a statement from the Energy Ministry.

The ministry indicated that three regasification ships have arrived in Egypt. One ship is currently regasifying and supplying gas to the national natural gas network, while the other two ships are being prepared and connected to ports to start supplying natural gas.

The operations room for the natural gas network continues to monitor the situation 24/7, ensuring the safety of the gas network as well as the diesel reserves. The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, along with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, visited the National Gas Control Center to review the latest updates on activating the emergency plan.

Additionally, the Minister of Petroleum visited the Sokhna Port to expedite connecting the third regasification ship to the national natural gas network.

The Prime Minister held a meeting with the Ministers of Electricity and Petroleum to review the latest developments and follow up on the activation of the emergency plan.
