Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the President was briefed on ongoing preparations for the holy month of Ramadan. Discussions centered particularly on the availability of high-quality food commodities at affordable prices. The Minister of Supply confirmed that all essential goods are available in sufficient quantities and that ‘Ahlan Ramadan’ (Welcome Ramadan) exhibitions offer discounts ranging from 15% to 25% on various food items. He added that 2.5 million Ramadan boxes and bags have been prepared for distribution.

President El-Sisi emphasized the necessity of continuous, daily monitoring of commodity availability in all outlets and exhibitions across the republic. The President stressed the importance of ensuring commitment to the announced prices, discount rates, and product quality, adding that those who inflate prices will be held accountable. The President gave directives for the state to utilize all market and price control mechanisms to prevent price hikes or speculation, particularly with regard to poultry, to ensure market stability and alleviate the burden on citizens, taking into consideration the consumption rates during the Holy Month.

In this context, the President approved the launch of ‘Carry On’ as a national project, as part of the initiative to unify the branding of consumer complexes and supply outlets. President El-Sisi also gave instruction to continue field follow-ups and full coordination among relevant authorities to ensure the success and efficiency of the supply system nationwide, guaranteeing that subsidies reach those most in need.

The meeting also reviewed developments in the food security system. The President was updated on the status of strategic reserves for essential food commodities, as part of proactive planning to maintain national stockpiles. Discussions also covered methods to tackle food security challenges arising from regional events, as well as the digital transformation within the food security system.

President El-Sisi directed that strategic reserves must be maintained and strengthened. He further emphasized the need to continue efforts toward achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural crops, livestock, and poultry, alongside the modernization of crop varieties through cooperation and coordination among the relevant ministries and the “Egypt’s Future Authority for Sustainable Development”.

The meeting focused on the development of mechanisms to activate the Commodity Exchange and its role in enhancing food security and ensuring the sustainable supply of essential goods at affordable prices. This includes achieving fair pricing for strategic commodities to protect both producers and consumers alike. The discussions also tackled successful international experiences in managing commodity exchanges.

The President emphasized the importance of accelerating the activation of the Commodity Exchange and leveraging Egypt’s potential as a regional logistics hub for the trade of strategic commodities, thus bolster its economic standing regionally and internationally. The meeting underscored the vital need to continue cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Supply and Domestic Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and the “Egypt’s Future Authority for Sustainable Development” to ensure the realization of food security.
