Egypt Daily News – President Sisi met for the first time today, Wednesday, with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in the city of Kazan, Russia.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, stated in a statement that Presidents Sisi and President Pezeshkian agreed on the importance of joint efforts to explore the prospects for developing bilateral relations, and exchanged views on developments in the region.
President Sisi emphasized “the importance of defusing regional tensions and avoiding uncalculated escalation, which could push the entire region into serious confrontations with negative repercussions on regional security and stability.”
He also reviewed the intensive Egyptian efforts and communications to push for a de-escalation path and reach a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the necessity of rallying international efforts to urge all parties to engage positively with the endeavors aimed at restoring calm in the region, which would allow for addressing the humanitarian catastrophe faced by civilians in Palestine and Lebanon.
The Iranian news agency “IRNA” reported that the discussions between President Sisi and President Bezhkian addressed the most important regional issues and the ways to stop the war in Gaza and Lebanon, and to prevent the expansion of confrontations in the region.
