Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has commended former U.S. President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the ongoing war in Gaza, describing a recent summit in New York as a “foundational moment” for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.

In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, President Sisi said:
“I appreciate the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to bring an end to the war in Gaza in particular, and to pursue peace in the Middle East more broadly.”

He added:
“We value what was proposed during his meeting with several Arab and Islamic leaders in New York yesterday. I believe it serves as an important foundation upon which we can build in the coming period to achieve peace.”

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, brought together leaders from the United States and eight key Arab and Muslim-majority nations. It marked a significant diplomatic initiative led by President Trump, aimed at brokering an end to the conflict in Gaza and laying groundwork for post-war stabilization.

A High-Level Multilateral Gathering

The summit, co-hosted by President Trump and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, was attended by Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

According to a joint statement released after the meeting, the leaders emphasized the catastrophic humanitarian toll of the war in Gaza, calling it “unbearable” and warning of its dangerous implications for regional stability and the wider Islamic world.

Participants reiterated a unified stance against the forced displacement of Palestinians, stressing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the safe return of those displaced, and the release of hostages. They also underscored the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza without delay steps they framed as prerequisites for any sustainable peace process.

Backing a New Framework for Peace

The summit also addressed broader regional concerns, including the future of the West Bank and the status of Jerusalem’s holy sites. The leaders expressed support for efforts to reform the Palestinian Authority and reiterated their backing for a comprehensive peace plan.

In a notable diplomatic gesture, Arab and Islamic leaders voiced appreciation for President Trump’s leadership in convening the meeting and affirmed their willingness to cooperate with him on future steps toward conflict resolution.

“President Trump’s leadership is essential,” the statement said, “and we are ready to work together to lay out a detailed roadmap for peace, stability, and reconstruction.”

The meeting reflects growing international interest in reshaping the post-war landscape in Gaza and finding a long-term political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. While many obstacles remain — including deep divisions among Palestinian factions, Israeli political volatility, and broader geopolitical rivalries, the New York summit was widely seen as a potential turning point.

President Sisi’s endorsement of the initiative signals Egypt’s willingness to play an expanded role in post-war stabilization efforts, alongside its longstanding role as a key regional mediator.
