Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today, Thursday, from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that during the call, President El-Sisi and the Italian Prime Minister reaffirmed the strong momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the economic, investment, trade, and energy sectors, in line with the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.
The spokesperson explained that the call also emphasized the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in addressing illegal migration. The Italian Prime Minister praised Egypt’s efforts in this regard, which have resulted in no migrant boats departing from Egyptian shores since 2016. She noted that these Egyptian efforts are highly appreciated by European countries.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawy further added that the call included an exchange of views on regional developments. The Italian Prime Minister expressed her eagerness to hear President El-Sisi’s perspective on Egypt’s efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees, and ensure the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to protect the people of Gaza from the humanitarian crisis they are facing.
Both sides emphasized the importance of swiftly starting the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing Palestinians or undermining the Palestinian cause. They also stressed the need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in protecting the Palestinian people and supporting their efforts to establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
