President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has issued a presidential decree promoting the commanders of the Egyptian Navy and Air Force to the rank of lieutenant general, in a move underscoring the political leadership’s continued focus on strengthening and modernizing the Armed Forces.

Under the decree, Vice Admiral Mahmoud Adel Mahmoud Fawzy, Commander of the Naval Forces, and Air Marshal Amr Abdel Rahman Abdel Rahman Saqr, Commander of the Air Forces, have been elevated from the rank of major general to lieutenant general.

The announcement was made by Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, who stated that the decision reflects the state’s commitment to supporting and advancing the operational and institutional capabilities of the Armed Forces.

The promotions come at a time of ongoing structural and leadership adjustments within Egypt’s military establishment, following recent high-level appointments and cabinet changes. Observers note that elevating the heads of the Navy and Air Force signals confidence in their leadership and highlights the strategic importance of both branches amid evolving regional security dynamics.

Egypt has in recent years invested heavily in upgrading its naval and air capabilities, expanding maritime reach in the Mediterranean and Red Seas and enhancing aerial defense and deterrence capacity. The latest promotions are widely seen as part of a broader framework aimed at consolidating command structures and reinforcing readiness across all service branches.

As Egypt navigates complex regional challenges, including maritime security concerns and shifting geopolitical alignments, the leadership changes within the Armed Forces underscore a continued emphasis on stability, modernization, and strategic preparedness.
