Qatar’s Ministry of Defense announced Monday that its air forces shot down two Su-24 warplanes it said were coming from Iran, in addition to intercepting a number of ballistic missiles and drones.
In a statement, the ministry said the Qatari Emiri Air Force “successfully downed two (SU-24) aircraft originating from the Islamic Republic of Iran,” adding that air defenses also intercepted seven ballistic missiles.
The statement further noted that five drones targeting multiple locations across the country were also thwarted by the Qatari Emiri Air Force and the Qatari Emiri Navy.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry stressed that the threats were handled immediately upon detection in accordance with operational plans, and that all missiles were destroyed before reaching their intended targets. It affirmed that the Qatari Armed Forces possess the full capabilities and resources to protect the country’s sovereignty and territory and to respond firmly to any external threat.
