Egypt Daily News – The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Israel’s attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities are illegal and risk pushing the world toward a nuclear catastrophe. These actions, it said, are supported only by countries that are directly involved in them.
In a statement, the ministry said: “The current escalation of the Iranian-Israeli conflict poses risks of increased instability across the entire region, particularly in neighboring countries of Israel and Iran.”
It stressed that “the firm and uncompromising rejection by the majority of the world’s countries of Israel’s strikes on Iranian territory, including its nuclear infrastructure, along with the outcomes of the emergency UN Security Council meeting on June 13 and the special session of the IAEA Board of Governors on June 16, confirm that the aggressive path and destructive actions of the Israeli leadership are only understood and supported by those countries directly participating in them, driven by short-term motives.”
The statement added: “These ‘sympathetic’ countries are the ones that pressured the IAEA administration into producing a vague ‘comprehensive assessment’ of Iran’s nuclear program, which was then exploited to ‘pass’ the biased resolution by the Board of Governors against Iran on June 12.
This opened the way for Israel and led to the tragedy. It is clear that Western attempts to manipulate the global non-proliferation system and use it to settle political scores with undesirable states come at a high cost to the international community and are completely unacceptable.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed that “Israel’s continued and intensified attacks on the peaceful nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are illegal under international law, pose unacceptable threats to international security, and push the world toward a nuclear disaster with consequences that would be felt everywhere, including in Israel itself.”
Russia called on the Israeli leadership to reconsider its position and immediately stop its raids on nuclear facilities and sites that are under IAEA safeguards and monitoring.
The ministry also noted that “Russia acknowledges Iran’s clear statements regarding its firm commitment to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and its readiness to resume contacts with the United States to find possible solutions that would eliminate any unjustified doubts or biases about Iran’s nuclear program—provided that Israeli attacks stop.”
Moscow supports this direction and firmly believes that the desired resolution can only be reliably ensured through diplomacy and negotiations.
In its statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned: “The goals of nuclear non-proliferation, which are fundamentally rooted in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, must not be pursued through aggression and at the cost of innocent lives.”
