Fatah and Hamas

Egypt Daily News – Sources reported that there was significant progress at the conclusion of the Cairo meetings between representatives of the Hamas and Fatah movements. They added that the Fatah and Hamas movements reached an agreement that ended the dispute over the management of relief and reconstruction funds.

They also explained that Fatah and Hamas dealt positively with the Egyptian paper and gave their approval for it, while Fatah will respond within a week and its delegation will return to Cairo.

Establishing a committee to manage Gaza
Officials in Cairo hosted talks between Hamas and the Fatah movement led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas about the possibility of establishing a committee to manage the Gaza Strip after the war.

Egypt proposed forming a committee composed of independent specialized experts, supervised by the Palestinian Authority, to administer Gaza immediately after the end of the war.

However Israel said that Hamas should not have a role in governance.

An official close to the talks said there was progress but no final agreement had been reached. Israel’s approval will be crucial in determining whether the committee is able to fulfill its role.

The end of Hamas’ rule
Egyptian security officials also held talks with Hamas on ways to reach a ceasefire with Israel.

A Palestinian official close to the mediation efforts told Reuters that Hamas is adhering to its conditions that any agreement must end the war and include the withdrawal of Israeli forces, but it will show the necessary flexibility to achieve this.

Israel said that the war will not stop until Hamas’s rule of Gaza ends and does not pose any threat to the Israelis.
