Egypt Daily News – The Spanish government has begun the process of terminating a contract with an Israeli company for the purchase of ammunition for the Civil Guard, as announced by the Interior Ministry.
The contract, which was tendered on February 21, 2024, involved the procurement of 9×19 mm PB NATO cartridges, with two out of three contract lots awarded to the Israeli company.
In addition, the ministry indicated that other Israeli companies will be barred from participating in current bids for weapons purchases being reviewed by the Civil Guard’s Directorate General.
This move follows a statement from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on October 14, in which he urged the European Commission to honor requests from Spain and Ireland to suspend the free trade agreement with Israel in light of its military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
Sanchez also called for the international community to halt arms exports to Israel due to the ongoing escalation of violence in the region.
