Egypt Daily News – Fierce battles erupted in Khartoum today, Thursday, as the Sudanese army launched a military operation targeting areas in central, western, and southern Khartoum, which are under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.

Sudanese media revealed that clashes began at two in the morning in the vicinity of the Makran area west of Khartoum, with columns of smoke rising from the vicinity of the armored corps south of Khartoum, while the Sudanese army’s warplanes continued to fly heavily over the skies of Omdurman.

Media outlets revealed that airstrikes targeted the strategic headquarters in Al-Muqran in Khartoum, which was seized by the Rapid Support Forces from the army in June 2023. Sources indicated that sounds of clashes were heard and columns of smoke were seen in central Khartoum, particularly in the Arab Market and the General Command of the Army, as well as at the army’s signal corps.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the Sudanese army has shelled Rapid Support Forces positions in Bahri, Khartoum, with heavy artillery from the north of Omdurman, and smoke has risen from Al-Azirqab and Al-Halfaya in northern Bahri, coinciding with the army’s artillery bombardment.

In a related context, 15 people were killed and 61 others were injured in a shelling by the Rapid Support Forces last Monday at a crowded market in Omdurman, Khartoum State, Sudan.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, stated that the Rapid Support Forces shelled the “Sabreen Bakri” market, which was crowded with citizens in Omdurman, resulting in the death and injury of 76 people, according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
