Egypt Daily News – On Saturday, the Sudanese army announced that it took control of the city of Sinja, the capital of Sennar State, southeastern Sudan, after battles with the Rapid Support Forces in the city.
The Sudanese army published a video on its Facebook account, which said was of “the armed forces and other regular forces from within the headquarters of the 17th Infantry Division in the city of Sinja, on the road to cleansing the entire territory of the country from the rebel Rapid Support militia.”
While the official spokesman for the Sudanese government, Minister of Culture and Information, Khaled Ali Al-Aissar, said that the return of the city of Sinja “has returned, thanks to God and the determination of the heroes, to the embrace of the nation,” stressing that the moment of implementing justice and accountability is coming.
He added in a post on his Facebook page, “Justice and accountability will reach everyone who contributed to these crimes, and the criminals will be punished in proportion to their actions.”
He pointed to “the confidence that the Sudanese have in their armed forces, intelligence, and other regular forces,” adding that this confidence will remain firm and solid despite the extent of internal and external targeting, he said.
The Sudanese army published videos of popular celebrations of its control of the city, and said, “Women and children arriving from the city of Sinja (displaced people) inside shelters in safe areas under the control of the state and the armed forces are celebrating the cleansing of their city and their birthplace, the city of Sinja, from the violations of the terrorist militia, rejoicing in the nearness of their return to their homes.” And the rest of their property.
Sennar State is located in the southeast of Sudan. It is bordered to the north by Al-Jazira State, to the east by Gedaref State, to the west by White Nile State, and to the south by Blue Nile State. The cities of Sennar and Sinja have great strategic importance, as they control the land routes linking the east, south and west of the country.
