Egypt Daily News – On Sunday, the leader of the Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and the Turkish delegation accompanying him at the presidential palace in Damascus.
The meeting was attended by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Noah Yilmaz, Chargé d’Affaires of Ankara’s Embassy in Damascus, Burhan Koroglu, and Foreign Minister of the Syrian caretaker government, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani.
Fidan’s visit comes as fighting is taking place in northeastern Syria between Syrian fighters supported by Turkey and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which leads the US-allied Syrian Democratic Forces and which Ankara considers a terrorist group.
Earlier on Sunday, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Guler said that Turkey believes that Syria’s new rulers, including the Syrian National Army faction that Ankara supports, will expel Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militants from all the territory they occupy in northeastern Syria.
