Egypt Daily News – A Swiss appeals court ruled today, Tuesday, to convict Tarek Ramadan, the grandson of the founder of the terrorist organization the Muslim Brotherhood, of rape and sexual coercion in a hotel in Geneva 15 years ago, overturning the acquittal issued by a lower court last year.

The Swiss court stated that it “overturned the ruling issued on May 24, 2023, and issued a new sentence of 3 years in prison, of which two are suspended.”

It is worth mentioning that the court acquitted the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in May 2023 of the charges against him and awarded him compensation of 151,000 Swiss francs (135,000 British pounds) for the case.

This is the first time Ramadan is being tried on charges of rape, although he faces the risk of trial in France on similar charges.

The lawyer for the plaintiff named “Brigitte” stated that she was raped repeatedly and subjected to “torture and brutality.”

Ramadan, a controversial figure, denied the accusations and insisted that there was no sexual activity between him and Brigitte, stating that he was a victim of a “trap.”

Brigitte was in her forties at the time of the assault in 2008. She filed a complaint after 10 years, telling the court that she “felt emboldened to come forward after similar complaints were made by a girl in France.”

The indictment included charges against Ramadan for sexual coercion and committing the crime of rape three times. During the trial, the defense insisted on Ramadan’s innocence, asserting that there was no evidence in the case, and they attempted to tarnish the victims’ reputations.
