Egypt Daily News – Despite recent comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin praising U.S. President Donald Trump as “brave,” there remains a notable lack of progress in the diplomatic relationship between Russia and the United States.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that there have been no “concrete” developments regarding a potential phone call between the two leaders, emphasizing that it is “too early” to discuss any improvement in bilateral relations.

Peskov reiterated that Russia’s strategic objectives, particularly concerning Ukraine, have not changed. When questioned about whether Putin’s willingness to engage in discussions regarding Ukraine indicated a shift in his stance, he firmly denied that there would be any change in demands.

During the recent “Valdai” forum, Putin acknowledged Trump’s attempts to rebuild U.S.-Russia relations and expressed consideration for the American president’s efforts in addressing the Ukrainian crisis.

Meanwhile, Trump has frequently praised Putin, describing him as “smart” and asserting that he has a good rapport with the Russian leader, claiming that he could resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine swiftly.

However, the reality of U.S.-Russia relations remains strained, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which prompted significant American military support for Ukraine and the imposition of numerous sanctions against Russia.

Both leaders acknowledge the need to address these issues, yet concrete actions reflecting a thaw in relations are yet to materialize.
