Egypt Daily News – The Associated Press reported on Friday that the United States and Israel are looking to Africa as a potential destination for relocating Palestinians from Gaza and Israeli officials have reached out to officials from Sudan, Somalia, and the breakaway region of Somaliland to discuss the resettlement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
The agency added that Sudanese officials stated they had rejected the United States proposal, while officials from Somalia and Somaliland said they were unaware of any such communications.
The White House and the United States State Department have yet to respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. Similarly, the information ministers of Somalia and the breakaway region of Somaliland did not answer phone calls from Reuters for a response.
All three countries rejected the offer. Somalia and Somaliland stated that they had not received an official request but would refuse such an offer regardless.
Somaliland is a breakaway region from Somalia that no country in the world has recognized as independent. It is not a member of the United Nations or the African Union. This situation provides an opportunity for the U.S. to attempt to leverage diplomatic support and recognition in exchange for Somaliland’s acceptance of Palestinian refugees.
In Sudan, Trump’s team approached Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s faction, offering reconstruction aid and unprecedented support in exchange for accepting the deal. However, the he rejected the proposal outright, stating they were too preoccupied with the ongoing war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Sudan’s Foreign Ministry also did not respond to a request for comment. The country is currently suffering from a devastating civil war that has displaced 12 million people and led to widespread famine.
Earlier this month, Arab leaders, including the heads of Sudan and Somalia, approved an Egyptian-led $53 billion reconstruction plan for Gaza, which could prevent the forced displacement of Palestinians—contrary to U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision of transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Trump proposed U.S. control over Gaza for its reconstruction after previously suggesting the permanent displacement of its residents.
His plan has heightened longstanding Palestinian fears of being forcibly expelled from their homeland and has been widely rejected by the international community.
Puntland, Somalia and Morocco, Trump’s new destinations to displace Palestinians
As reported earlier by EgyptDailyNews.com, Israeli media have revealed 3 other regions, Puntland, Somalia and Morocco that US President Donald Trump is considering transporting the residents of the Gaza Strip to it.
The Israeli Channel 12 made it clear that the land of Somalia and Puntland, with Morocco, are the places that are nominated to receive the Palestinians whom the American administration wants to displace.
The Israeli media pointed out that what President Trump said about the displacement of Gaza residents is not statements, but rather plans previously prepared.
