Egypt Daily News – US President Donald Trump announced the implementation of tariffs on Canada and Mexico, as well as an additional 10% tariff on China, starting on March 4.
In a post on his official Truth Social page on Thursday evening, he stated that drugs are flowing into the United States from Mexico and Canada at “very high and unacceptable levels,” noting that a significant portion of these synthetic drugs is manufactured in China.
He pointed out that “more than 100,000 people died last year due to the distribution of these dangerous and addictive substances,” according to his post.
Two days ago, the US president confirmed that tariffs on Canada and Mexico would begin next month, ending a one-month suspension of the planned import tariffs, which could negatively impact economic growth and increase inflation.
During a press conference at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump said, “We are on schedule with the tariffs, and things seem to be moving very quickly.”
While answering a specific question about the tariffs to be imposed on the United States’ two largest trading partners, he also emphasized that the “reciprocal” tariffs he plans to impose will take effect as scheduled.
Trump maintains that other countries impose unfair tariffs that harm domestic manufacturing and jobs in the United States.
His repeated threats of tariffs have raised concerns among businesses and consumers about an economic slowdown and rising inflation. However, he insists that these tariffs will generate revenue to help reduce the federal budget deficit and create new jobs.
