Egypt Daily News – In a significant political development regarding the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire proposal brokered jointly by Egypt and Qatar. Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating: “Israel has agreed to the necessary terms to finalize a 60-day ceasefire.”

Trump emphasized that the initiative aims to pave the way toward a permanent end to the conflict, adding: “The final proposal will be presented by the Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked hard to bring about peace.” He also revealed that representatives from his administration held a “lengthy and productive” meeting with Israeli officials to discuss the details of the initiative.

In follow-up remarks, Trump stressed that he will be “very firm” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ensure the ceasefire deal is finalized, just days ahead of Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington. “Netanyahu also wants a ceasefire. He’s coming next week and wants to put this issue behind him,” Trump stated.

These comments were made during Trump’s visit to a newly opened detention center for undocumented migrants in Florida, named “Alligator Alcatraz.” When asked by reporters whether a ceasefire could be reached before Netanyahu’s visit, Trump responded, “We hope to reach that, and we hope it happens next week.”

While expressing hope that Hamas will accept the proposed deal, Trump warned that if the group rejects it, “the situation will get worse.”

This political momentum comes amid growing international pressure to end the war in Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen.
