Egypt Daily News – US President Donald Trump has agreed to freeze the customs duties he imposed on Canada for 30 days after making the same decision regarding Mexico, as America’s largest trading partner took steps to calm his concerns about border security and drug trafficking.
According to the Associated Press, the stopping periods provide a calm opportunity after turbulent days, North America was put on the threshold of a trade war that threatened to crush economic growth, causing high prices and ending two of the most important partnerships of the United States.
Trump posted his accounts on social media, saying: “I am very happy with this initial result, and the customs tariffs that were announced on Saturday for 30 days will be stopped to see if it is possible to structure a final economic deal with Canada or not … justice for everyone! “
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reported that the stopping would happen “while we work together”, saying that his government will target the fentanyl smuggling operations, assign the Mexican cartels as terrorist groups, plus launches a joint striking force between Canada and the United States to combat organized crime, fentanyl smuggling and money laundering.
Trump stopped after a similar movement with Mexico that allows a period of negotiations on drug smuggling and illegal immigration.
Trump’s customs duties shocked many investors, legislators, companies and consumers, on Saturday to impose customs duties by 25% on imports from Mexico and Canada, with other customs duties by 10% on Canadian oil, natural gas and electricity.
Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a month’s stoppage of increased customs tariffs against each other after Trump described it on social media as a “very friendly conversation”, and said he is looking forward to the upcoming negotiations.
Trump said that the talks will be chaired by Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Besent, Commerce Minister Howard Lottenic and high -ranking representatives from Mexico, and Claudia Sheinbaum said that she is working to enhance the borders with ten thousand National Guard in her country and that the US government will commit to working to stop arms smuggling to Mexico.
