Egypt Daily News – Two dead and 20 injured in Minya train accident according to a statement from the Minya Governorate Operations Room due to a tractor collision in Minya, in front of the village of Maghousa. All the injured were transferred to Minya University Hospital and Minya General Hospital.
Sources said that the two fatalities were a technician and an electrician of the sleeper train that was involved in the collision.
The security hotline at the Minya Security Directorate received a report from the emergency operations room about a collision between two trains near the Maqousa level crossing in the Minya Center.
The collision occurred between a “power” locomotive coming from Qena and the rear power car of sleeper train number 1087 going from Aswan to Cairo, resulting in the accident.
Fifteen injured individuals were transferred to Minya General Hospital, while five others were taken to the university hospital for treatment.
The river rescue team, with the help of the locals, managed to recover the bodies of two workers from the sleeper train passengers.
As soon as the “Control, Emergency, and Public Safety Center” in the governorate received notification of the accident, Major General Emad Kdwaney, the Minya governor, ambulance services, civil defense, and traffic police, moved to the accident site to monitor the situation on the ground.
The governor monitored the rescue and ambulance operations and directed the dispatch of 20 ambulances to transport the injured and provide the necessary medical care.
He also confirmed the detachment of two sleeper train cars and the resumption of train movement towards Cairo. The process of lifting the two cars is currently underway, and train services have resumed since 8 AM.
