Egypt Daily News – Today, Wednesday, Dr. Muhammad Al-Duwaini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar, delivered a speech in which he welcomed President Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, during his reception at Al-Azhar Convention Center to meet Indonesian students studying at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and to deliver a lecture in the presence of a group of Al-Azhar leaders and scholars and Indonesian students, on the sidelines of His official visit to Egypt.
The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar stressed that this honorable visit from the Indonesian President to Egypt and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is a link in the chain of fruitful communication between Egypt and Indonesia, as the scientific relationship between the two countries goes back several centuries, before the people of Indonesia came to Al-Azhar to study in its corridors, and Al-Nahl from the source of his knowledge, and learning from his distinguished sheikhs.
Dr. Al-Duwaini stressed that the relationship between Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Indonesia is an old and renewed relationship at the same time, and it is a strong relationship as well at the official and popular levels, explaining that Al-Azhar is the first to give great attention to the children of Indonesia who want to learn, to the point that they have become an integral part of Egypt through their education in Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. He dedicated one of its corridors to them, and attributed it to Java, the largest island in Indonesia. This corridor still exists today on the campus of Al-Azhar Mosque under the name “Javanese Corridor.” To witness the depth of the scientific relationship that continues to this day.
Dr. Al-Duwaini added that within the halls of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the people of Indonesia were keen to acquire religious and life sciences, until they imbibed the Al-Azhari approach in knowledge and morals century after century, and many prominent Indonesian men graduated in its halls and colleges, who returned to their country as ambassadors for the message of Islam. They held the highest religious and political positions in their country.
The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar continued, saying: “The Al-Azhar imprint did not stop at the point of transporting people to the depths of heritage books, but rather Al-Azhar transferred the lights of knowledge to people’s lives, in a moderation that revealed distortion and deliberate distortion by groups of intellectual darkness and mental deviation, and this Al-Azhar role that preserved Life to Indonesia in order to fight extremist ideas targeting Indonesian society.
Dr. Al-Duwaini said that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is the educational and religious institution that carries the model of moderate Islam that accepts life with reconstruction and peoples with hope. To open its doors to its visitors, lovers, students, and destinations, based on its prominent role in supporting communication between peoples through students arriving to its campus, and through missions that travel to many countries of the world, and through foreign institutes located in some countries, especially Indonesia. Therefore, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif has a great historical wealth of love from the Indonesian people.
