Egypt Daily News – The recent heavy rains and floods in Yemen have severely impacted over 38,000 families, according to the United Nations.

The situation is expected to worsen as adverse weather conditions are projected to continue until September. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported significant damage to homes and shelters, especially affecting host communities and internally displaced individuals, with some damage deemed irreparable.

In terms of infrastructure, public facilities such as schools, roads, and health services have suffered considerable damage, exacerbating the already precarious livelihoods of many in the affected regions. During August alone, the most affected areas included Hajjah and Hodeidah, with approximately 19,575 families impacted, followed by Ma’rib (9,769 families), Taiz (5,321 families), and Saada (3,620 families).

This brings the total number of affected families to around 38,285, which equates to nearly 268,000 individuals.

The UN also highlighted that Hajjah, Hodeidah, Ma’rib, Saada, and Taiz are among the hardest-hit governorates. Since the end of July, Rapid Response Mechanism teams have verified 11,653 affected families and provided assistance to 8,542 of them.

Additionally, a preliminary report from the previous Sunday indicated that the floods and rains since March have resulted in 73 deaths and injuries to several individuals, significantly impacting more than 34,260 families. This situation underlines the urgent necessity for humanitarian aid and support in Yemen as the crisis continues to unfold.
