The United States has rescued one crew member from a fighter jet shot down over Iran, while an urgent search continues for a second missing airman, in a sharp escalation of the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran.

US officials confirmed to multiple outlets, including CNN, CBS News, and the Associated Press, that the aircraft involved was an F-15E Strike Eagle, a two-seat fighter jet. The US military has acknowledged that the aircraft was brought down by enemy fire, marking the first confirmed loss of an American aircraft over Iranian territory since hostilities began five weeks ago.

The rescued pilot is currently receiving medical treatment, though officials have not disclosed details about his condition. The fate of the second crew member remains unknown, prompting an intensive search-and-rescue mission under highly dangerous conditions.

US military aircraft have reportedly been flying low over southern Iran as part of the recovery effort, according to videos circulating on social media. Some unverified footage appears to show ground fire directed at the aircraft involved in the operation. Reports have also suggested that a US Black Hawk helicopter participating in the mission may have sustained damage, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Iranian state media has broadcast images said to show debris from the downed jet, including what appears to be an ejection seat and fragments consistent with the F-15E’s structure. The authenticity and timing of these images remain unverified.

In a move that has further heightened tensions, Iranian media outlets have called on civilians to assist in locating the missing pilot. A state television broadcast urged citizens to capture and hand over any American airmen, promising a financial reward. Local officials reportedly went further, offering a bounty of 10 billion tomans, equivalent to approximately $76,000, for the capture of the missing pilot.

The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident but has not provided further details. In recent public remarks, Trump referenced the strategic Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that the United States could reopen the critical waterway “with a little more time,” signaling broader military considerations in the region.

The incident comes amid intensifying hostilities across the Middle East. Recent strikes have reportedly caused significant damage to infrastructure in Iran, including the collapse of a major bridge that resulted in multiple fatalities. At the same time, Iran has launched attacks targeting locations in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, underscoring the widening scope of the conflict.

US intelligence assessments indicate that Iran retains significant missile-launch capabilities despite ongoing strikes, raising concerns about further escalation.

As the search for the missing airman continues, the downing of the aircraft highlights the growing risks faced by military personnel in the region and signals a dangerous new phase in a conflict that shows little sign of easing.

A second US military aircraft has gone down in the Persian Gulf region, intensifying concerns over escalating losses as American forces continue a high-risk search for a missing airman after a separate fighter jet was shot down over Iran.

US officials confirmed that an A-10 Warthog attack aircraft crashed near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz around the same time an F-15E Strike Eagle was brought down by Iranian fire inside Iranian territory. The pilot of the A-10, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, was safely rescued following the incident.
