US bans TikTok

Egypt Daily News – Today, Friday, the US Supreme Court unanimously upheld the federal law that bans the TikTok application as of the day after tomorrow, Sunday, unless it is sold by the parent company based in China, considering that the threat to national security posed by the company’s relationship with China outweighs the concerns of the application. TikTok or its 170 million users in the United States, related to restricting freedom of expression.

A sale does not appear to be imminent, and although experts said that the application will not disappear from the phones of current users once the law enters into force as of the day after tomorrow, Sunday, new users will not be able to download it and updates will not be available.

The US Department of Justice said in court documents that this would ultimately render the app inoperable.

The court’s decision came against the backdrop of unusual political turmoil between President-elect Donald Trump, who pledged that he was able to negotiate a solution, and the administration of President Joe Biden, which indicated that it would not implement the law starting on Sunday, which is the last day of Biden’s term.
