Egypt Daily News – The German newspaper Bild reported that the incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg resulted in the death of at least 11 people and the injury of about 80 others.

It reported that the police arrested a driver who stormed the Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg in central Germany, without any reports of casualties during the arrest.

The Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg, eastern Germany, witnessed a tragic accident after a car ploughed into the crowd near the municipal building, resulting in several deaths, injuries and a state of panic among visitors, according to German media.

According to local media, the car crossed the barriers and ran over a group of people in the market.

German government spokesman, Matthias Schoep, confirmed the accident, noting that there were a large number of emergency services at the site. The market manager called on people to leave the city center to facilitate the work of rescue teams.

Video clips circulated from the scene of the accident showed a widespread deployment of police cars and ambulances, with the entire city center cordoned off. The authorities are still investigating the incident, while advising citizens to avoid the area.

German broadcaster MDR reported that a suspected explosive device is currently still in the vehicle.
