Egypt Daily News – A major theft occurred at the Ministry of Education’s storage facilities in 6th of October City, Giza Governorate. A total of 1,288 school tablets, along with several ink cartridges, were stolen in this large-scale crime.
The discovery of the theft was made by the warehouse manager of the contracting department, who noticed the absence of the devices and promptly alerted the ministry. This prompted the Ministry of Education to file an official complaint with security authorities, launching an immediate investigation.
The estimated value of the stolen items is around 14 million pounds, leading the ministry to declare a state of emergency in the educational city of 6th of October. Investigations have since begun, focusing on the warehouse manager and his assistants to uncover the circumstances surrounding the theft.
Security agencies, in collaboration with the public prosecution and the Administrative Control Authority, are intensively working to identify those responsible and implement necessary measures in response to the incident.
Notably, the Educational City warehouse is home to over 700,000 school tablets and ink cartridges designated for distribution to educational directorates across the country. These devices are intended for first-year secondary students for the upcoming 2025 academic year.
The theft was indirectly uncovered when a ministry employee found two of the stolen tablets being sold at a store while purchasing a personal tablet. After confirming the serial numbers matched those of the missing devices, he reported the matter to the ministry and security officials, prompting further investigation into the theft.
