Egypt Daily News – The Administrative Control Authority arrested 16 government officials accused of forgery, bribery, and abusing their official powers to facilitate building violations. Investigations revealed that some officials sought to exploit their positions to obtain illicit financial benefits from contractors and property owners in exchange for enabling them to commit recent building violations and overlooking the legal procedures that should have been taken against them.
The investigations clarified that the accused agreed to settle these recent violations by falsely classifying them as old ones that occurred before the issuance of the Reconciliation in Building Violations Law.
It was found that 16 individuals were involved in these incidents, including the assistant secretary-general of a governorate, the former head of the Technical Inspection Authority for Construction Works, a district chief, and several other officials.
Upon presenting the case to the investigative authorities, arrest warrants were issued for the accused, who were charged with forgery, bribery, and harming public funds. They were placed in pretrial detention, and investigations are ongoing.
This comes within the framework of directives from the President of the Republic to implement and monitor Law No. 187 of 2023 on Reconciliation in Building Violations, ensuring procedural governance and addressing attempts to circumvent the law, which could result in the loss of state dues and an increase in building violations.
The Administrative Control Authority affirmed its firm commitment to utilizing all resources to combat any attempts that could compromise the integrity of public service or harm public funds, given the significant negative impact such crimes have on comprehensive development efforts in society.
