Egypt Daily News – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he discussed Ukraine’s recent drone attacks on Russia and developments related to Iran during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump said Putin told him during the call that Russia was compelled to respond to the Ukrainian attacks. He stated, “President Putin firmly said he would respond to the recent (Ukrainian) attacks on Russian bombers,” noting that the call lasted “an hour and 15 minutes.”

In a post on the “Truth Social” platform, he added, “The conversation was good, but it will not lead to immediate peace.” He continued, “I told President Putin that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon, and I believe we agree on that.”

The U.S. president also accused Iran of “stalling” in the ongoing talks with the United States regarding its nuclear program, stressing that he wants a “final response within a very short time frame” from Tehran.

He wrote that Putin hinted he might “participate” in negotiations aimed at reaching a new agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. These talks between the U.S. and Iran have been mediated by Oman since April.

For its part, the Kremlin said the “conversation between Putin and Trump was positive and constructive.”

The Kremlin also stated that “Trump informed Putin that Washington was unaware of the Ukrainian attack on Russian airfields.”

Additionally, an advisor to President Putin said Trump told the Russian leader he “would appreciate Russia’s help on the Iran issue,” adding that Trump described Moscow’s assistance to Washington on Iran as “essential.”

Trump is seeking to reach a nuclear deal with Iran that ensures control over enrichment activities at Iranian nuclear facilities and prevents Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Putin’s advisor also noted that the Russian president “has not considered holding a summit” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
