Three staff members from the Amiri Diwan of Qatar lost their lives in a tragic car accident near Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, over the weekend. The Qatari Embassy in Cairo confirmed the incident in a statement posted on Sunday via the social media platform X, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and confirming that two other individuals were injured and are currently receiving medical care at Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital.

According to preliminary information from Egyptian security sources, the vehicle carrying the Qatari personnel overturned on a sharp curve approximately 50 kilometers from the Red Sea resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh. While the identities of the victims have not been disclosed, sources indicated that the individuals involved were associated with diplomatic or official government duties.
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a formal statement on Sunday morning, extending its “sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies” to the government and people of Qatar. However, the statement did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the crash.
The incident occurred at a sensitive moment in the region, just days after Qatari officials participated in high-level diplomatic talks in Sharm El-Sheikh alongside Turkish and Egyptian counterparts. These negotiations culminated in a preliminary agreement between Israel and Hamas concerning the initial phase of a proposed U.S.-backed roadmap aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza.
Sharm El-Sheikh, known for its strategic diplomatic significance and resort tourism, is also set to host a major international summit on Monday. The gathering is expected to finalize terms of the Israel-Hamas agreement brokered under international mediation, underscoring the city’s continued role as a venue for regional diplomacy.
As investigations into the accident continue, both Qatari and Egyptian authorities are closely monitoring the condition of the injured and coordinating on the next steps for repatriation and official procedures. The loss has cast a somber shadow over the diplomatic efforts in the region, highlighting the often unpredictable risks faced by those engaged in international service.
Egypt Daily News sends its deepest condolences to the families. May the Rest In Peace.
